In the dark I thought I heard somebody call

Updated second perspective and additional commentary
After we reached the first branch of the tunnel, we proceeded forward aproximately 30 feet... at this point I was in the lead and heard a loud splashing noise as of something moving in the darkness ahead of us. At this point I paused as my flashlight was flckering. Startled by this sudden movement and by my flickering light, Ben bolted for the entrance , leaving me and Emily a a hundred feet into the black tunnel with one flickering light. We beat a hasty retreat and regrouped on the outside of the tunnel, pausing for a quick snack of tortilla chips before venturing off to another entrance that we had spotted on our recon mission. After tenaciously making our way through the brush to the other tunnel entrance ( A grated door made entirely of metal) We spent a brief amount of time attempting to figure out the locking mechanism before deciding that I would return with a blow torch at a later date. We were separated as we made our way back by different routes. Ben and Emily actually went the same way but Ben moves much faster and had soon outdistanced her. I scaled a nearly vertical hill to return to the overhead path we take to get to the far location and took it farther than we had previously done. This took me to the waterfall that is directly behind the tunnel entrance where I perched and watched ben for 10 minutes until he noticed me. Then we waited another ten minutes for Emily to show up. When she didn't I became concerned and dispatched Ben to go find her, while I bravely waited with the chips. When they returned we made another foray into the tunnel, this time managing to get Ben to stay with us, as he had the good flashlight. I will continue this later... I have to go
