There is never ever anything to do at this late. I mean, I only thing I can possibly do is amuse myself via writing or drawing or whatever-- pretty much everyone else is just as bored and not in a mood for talking, and I've gotten bored with INTERNET (mostly because I can never find anything good to read when I actually look for it).

So I am BORED. Really, really bored.

Also, Sun, it has gotten to the point where I would just like CR /up/ again, so feel free to do whatever with the HD you think you should do (this is retroactive if you've already handed it over to Tony or something like that). Because most of the areas either sucked or were areas that none but I would ever see. Of course, you had a lot more data on the thing than I did, but you are the active party over your data, not I.

Although I would /still/ like my house back. I liked all those rooms. I wonder if I have logs. I don't think I had Gmud set to log, but if I did than I have everything saved somewhere.

That's doubtful, though. Okay, you won't notice, but I just spent several minutes checking. The latest logfile is from before I got the 2003 backup. So, no deal there. Curse you, lack of autologging! If you could autolog I would have set it! Alas.

I found an online grammar textbook. This is going to prove useful once I spend a few days reading it over. Seriously, the author starts talking about propositions and common nouns vs. proper nouns vs. collective nouns (okay, I /do/ remember all the different kinds of nouns) and all sorts of crazy grammar terms that I have heard a lot but never actually found out what they mean. So it's very confusing.

But having a proper English textbook should be a gigantic help, because what I usually do is mimic other people's grammar rules-- not that good of an idea with that state of writing these days.

BORED BORED BORED

This is why I should not write long blog entries at five in the morning. Oh, I got my webcam working. Hooray for me. HOT PIXXX FOR ALL. ...See above note about writing at five. yeah.

Finally, I am looking into moving back to Minneapolis pretty much ASAP, so, uh, if anyone has any ideas for that I would like help with the planning. Because it really sucks here. Like, really.

I just got a rather bizzare e-mail.

From: "Gil Acosta"

Subject: Here are the pics
Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2005 16:35:47 -0600
That sucks, but I'd say it's well deserved. I'm guilty of starting my day off by checking your blog and enjoy keeping up with the latest and greatest news and reviews. Take care and hurry back. (and while you're on hiatus, CHANGE THE MUSIC IN YOUR CD PLAYER!) James, Norah, and Kenny need a break! Ryan, I guess I'm the other person that reads this!

I mean, I /think/ it's spam but huh? Spam usually has something to sell or at least advertise. There wasn't anything attached, either.

This is totally the fault of those zany rabbit hole people, isn't it? ISN'T IT?!

I am so happy I can spell 'surreptitiously' correctly on my first try.

See, the first time I tried using it I thought it only had one 't' and I spelled it all crazy like 'surreptiously' only it was way more mangled than that. I seem to like long words that start with 's'-- I use 'spasmodically' fairly often as well.

...back to writing.

CR POST

BECAUSE I CAN

Okay, as far as I know the data is still sitting unaccessable on the broken HD (and possibly in danger of being LOST FOREVER), but here I am going to replicate some of the project files because... hey, why not?

So no. 1 would be GETTING LOST

One of the things I don't really like about MUDs is that you can never ever get lost. It's annoying because whereever you go you can just retrace your steps because all the characters instantly know which way is north at all times.

So my idea is there's a change to the exit code, so it reads forwards/backwards/left/right/forward-left/forward-right/backward-left/backward-right/up/down, all dependant on which way a character enters a room. To example:
Character enters a room from going out the west exit of another room. He sees (the dits in brakets are to help YOU, THE READER):
exits: forward(west), backward(east), left(south).
Assume Character goes left. He sees:
exits: forward(south), backward(north), right(west), up.
Assume Character goes up. He sees:
exits: forward(south), down.
Because you don't change facing-direction when you climb ladders.
I am also assuming there will be compasses (which go "The needle is pointing to your left" or something like that) and a racial innate/learned skill/imm skill which makes the actual directions visible.

And no. 2 would be related to that kind of sort of, that being ZORK

I, uh, like the Zork syntax. 'sit in chair' as opposed to 'sit chair'. 'put monkey in box' as opposed to 'put monkey box'. And so on and so forth. Downside: would possibly require rewriting large chunks of code.

and no. 3 would be SMIIIIITHING

I am actually putting together a smithing system vague code thing, but the general gist of it is a haphazard mishmash of Dark Cloud 2 smithing and Legend of Mana smithing. Every object can be changed into something smithable, and then tempered into a weapon or armour. When a weapon's stats get to a certain point, it can be changed into a different weapon. It gets more complex than that because, uh, there are going to be a lot of weapon stats and all that, but that's the basics. YEAH.

Okay, according to the tracking thing, Sun's new HD (THAT I BOUGHT FOR HIM YOU OWE ME $32) arrived today.

So he better be a-fixing. Like, now. I want CR. More specificially, I want MY HOUSE. I love that house. It's becoming full of actual rooms instead of several hundred empty hallways.

And wait, the challenge is 'go down a => 30 floor dungeon where the enemies on the last floor are level => 300'? Because that sounds very easy. I need to get both of my bottle mails up to level high, though... because they are sloooow and one can't have anthing equipped (the stealing one).

[EDIT]: Oh I better find my maps. I'm pretty sure I still have them. They are very useful and good to have and whatnot. Yes! Yes I do. I mean, I had found my maps but I didn't know if I had the maps of the various versions of my house. ...I was trying to fix the folding problems. So here's version one, with long hallways and nothing else, and version two with actual rooms and items and whatnot.

Edit edit:
Sanji el Guapo: Alright, good news and not so good news.
Itrasbiel: eh eh?
Sanji el Guapo: Hard drive came
Itrasbiel: Good
Sanji el Guapo: You can guess the bad
Itrasbiel: Does not work?
Sanji el Guapo: Nope
Itrasbiel: Or you can't fix, or not right board, or what?
Sanji el Guapo: Right board
Sanji el Guapo: I'm going to switch the heads
Sanji el Guapo: because I assume that the motor itself may be borken
Itrasbiel: Is this the thing that involves CRACKING IT OPEN?
Sanji el Guapo: Yeap

By the way, Xax, after you maul Mid-Boss and go through a 30+ floor dungeon with 300+ monsters on the last level, go to the Island of Evil for fun extra stages, and by fun, I mean OMFG.

This is the last missable item, I think, you gotta steal Scarlet's Soul Blade and confine it (I had to use the level 9999 Scrabbit trick to get my Bottlemail to level 505 before I could cap it) and have fun mauling her, she's incredibly weak, and then you get ANOTHER Soul Blade after the battle ^_^

Anddddddddd that level is terribly misleading, considering the next.

Scarlet was level 450? Wow!

Next level:
Sulpher is LEVEL 2000 !?!??!?!?!?! AND HAS ATK STR DEF AND SPD ALL MULTIPLIED BY 2?!??!?! AHHHRHRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG

Needless to say, there was much crying and screaming on my part.
Time to do some INSANE levelling.

I am not a real person. <3

(untitled)

by visaeril @ 05:11 [edit] [link]

In the late 90's, when I first stumbled upon the Internet, there was a certain site I found. It was an LJ before there were were LJs (or at least, before LJ took off). It was nothing but a collection of words all written by one person, and this person is still wise and eloquent in amounts far beyond me.

I go back, every few months, and reread all of it. The feeling of nostalgia I get when reading the words is quite possibly the strongest feeling of nostalgia I have ever gotten. This is not without reason.

Before I got online (I remember a much younger me trying to convince my mother to shell out the monthly fee), I was not much of a person. Even not that long ago, I wasn't really much of a person. But finding what I did and reading what I have read has helped a great deal. I formed actual mental constructs, dictates of behaviour that go beyond 'what is best for me now and in the future.'

And these writing, I have come to realize, were the first swirling vapours of what would become who I am. I can read over these and find ideas and beliefs I hold strongly, I and realize that these words are /why/ I have these beliefs.

It is, in part, a pilgrimege of sorts. I say to myself that I am not this person and I will never be this person. Furthermore, I do not /want/ to be this person. I find things there that are deeply rooted parts of me, but I also find concepts that I think are wrongheaded and odd. But it's all so very, very nostalgic.

The Internet, more and more now, is becoming where I live. I like that. You can't beat global communication, and I don't really like the average day-to-day interaction, it makes me sad because I realize how much I don't know about the people I'm dealing with. Each person I meet, online or otherwise, is their own person. They have thoughts and memories and it's tragic that people don't seem to interact as much as they should, ever.

One of the things I hold dear is the concept that people should strive to change the world to what they want it to be. People should be who they want to be and do what they want to do, and they should be vocal about it and tell other people exactly why they are doing so. I don't see people doing this - perhaps it's just invisible to me in the way that my mind is invisible to others. I don't know.

But I'd like for other people to be more alive.

And now, I am going to finish rereading my past.

Ben, some interesting PB things.

1. You cannot have a character or sword with more than 32 skills on it.
2. There is a l33t title.
3. Try to put Made of Money, Mana Monger, EXP. Riser, Quick Attack, Healing Birth, Healing Steps, and Energy Saver on everyone you have.

This passivly increases money gained, mana gained, exp gained, lets them attack right after confined, has them heal every turn, has them heal when confined, and boosts their remove count by 4 =D

I know not a lot of us really liked the seris but me, but Life of Riley is back! Yay!

Sortof.

It's kinda an odd situation, but I checked every day for a year and a half.

Yeah, I liked it that much XD

Also, Ben, save a backup game and combine Ash with the Heliotrope sword and Heliotrop skill and HAVE HIM USE IT WITH A ROCK! It's so funny.

by Kitkinder @ 14:17 [edit] [link]

Hey, Ben, in Phantom Brave I noticed when you combine characters with weapons and can add their attacks, you can use them when unarmed. Which is nifty, because then I don't have to worry about equipment too much now since Ash can now use just about every ability I've seen without having to be equipment specific. Also, it's pretty funny to see Ash use Serial Stinging with a sunflower, or Heliotrope with a brick.

"Resident Evil taught us to cherish each special bullet because they are Super Rare, rare like gems. So when playing the game initially, I was very circumspect with my action instincts because I knew Capcom was waiting for me to run out of ammo so they could screw me with some mutant dong. What you will find out right away is that Capcom, the same Capcom that made you run around a single house for hours and go back and forth between boxes, doesn't want you to be frustrated or bored or ineffectual. Not only are bullets all over the place anyway, the guys you shoot with the bullets often drop bullets themselves. You're supposed to get into big, setpiece style gunfights and emerge victorious."

I love PA, because that's so true.

...He had a birthday? I'm terrible with remembering trival little details like people's birthdates... and ages.

Also, wow, I have no life. Like, seriously. Since I got Phantom Brave I've been playing it pretty much every waking hour. Oh, you think I'm joking about that, huh? You can do that sort of thing when you have nothing but free time.

But then the powerlevelling and building giant towers of objects got a bit boring, so here I am on the computer.

[EDIT]: Okay, you may have noted that I am blowing off doing other stuff (most notably writing) for playing Phantom Brave. So, I went and talked to one of my characters, and they said: "Do you make fanart or fanfiction?".

And I said "I GET THE HINT, PHANTOM BRAVE." And now I am writing.

(untitled)

by visaeril @ 21:16 [edit] [link]

So, in expectation of Phantom Brave getting here, I'm running around in Disgaea pwning things. Most going through item worlds with all the 'stronger enemies' bills passed.

I got a legendary Cosmic Blade! And, uh, a legendary Nine Tails Fur. And am levelling up the Nine Tails Fur so it becomes really really overpowered. And the Longinus is just obscenely powerful, now. See, I have two legendary Longinus', and one is level 99 and has fairly decent, if uneven, stats. The other is level 30 or 40 and has less decent, but very even stats and a full load of stat-boosting residents.

So basically, with the more powerful one Adremelch can kill characters around a thousand levels above her in three hits. And soon she will have an overpowered /armour/ to go with her overpowered spear.

So, uh, yay. I'm going to have to get used to not being able to kill everyone with one person when I start playing Phantom Brave.

Also, it is posts like these that make me wish I could lj-cut or something.

Ugh. Today was horrible. Like... just... gah.

As a reference point, the best thing that's happened to me today was having my foot run over by a freaking car. Whole foot, whole car, and it hurts... a lot...

On a lighter note, I still have Disgaea... mmm... mmm Disgaea... and Rayv should post more often... and... so should Syn. We should also all try to post... useful things... or things people might actually enjoy reading... as opposed to, y'know, Xax's dirty, creepy porn.

(untitled)

by visaeril @ 04:30 [edit] [link]

Wow, you sure are boring. I mean, I was somewhat skeptical when a friend pointed out that this place was /boring/, but... boring.

So I feel I should start things off with an interesting post or at least something with some actual content.

So, I went on a walk today! Tonight, really. Uh. A few hours ago. I left at 1.30 and got about around, uh, 2.30. It's /really cold out/. And dark. Because hey, it's night time.

I think the one good thing about living in Ashland is that I can go out for a walk at any time and not have to worry about creepy people. Not that I really had to worry about that in Minneapolis, either, but... y'know.

Of course, it would make for more interesting walks if there was anything but evil death ravines (and I don't want to go into at night) and suburbs. There's at least a rather nifty playground a few blocks away.

But I am still waiting eagerly for the day I can move back to the Twin Cities, because I really do hate small towns. I'd love to live in a place like Kowloon Walled City. Too bad the place was blown up and all.

I should get back to editing or writing or something like that, though. Sad me has been in a writing slump, however. So I think what I will do is post this and then go to sleep and hope I get a good night's sleep.

...and then write porn. And maybe take another walk tomorrow night.

And on an unrelated note, anyone reading this should really get some Vanessa-Mae music. Supposedly the genre is something like 'techno classical' or something stupid like that, but eh. It's really good fast-tempo violin music.

So Sunny's worst nightmare has come true... and mine as well.

Xenon (or Xbox Next) is coming in three forms:
1. Xenon with an HD built in for us rich folk.
2. Normal Xenon (Which is deliciously lighter than the tank I have now).
3. Xenon from HELL. Comes complete with a keyboard, mouse, CD burner, Windows XP, Internet Explorer, PC game compat... it's a fucking cheap laptop.

On the GOOD side of things...
Koei, one of my top five favorite companies, is already producing the first PS3 game. On that note, PS3 is coming out in 2006.

Also, I have Disgaea, woot.

The Matrix Online is coming out on the 18th... which... is amusing. I mean, I know about thirty people in my school that already know how to hack the server code.

Yeah...

RE4 is coming to the PS2, which kicks ASS.

Oh, and Sunny, you'll like this:
"Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening comes out March 8th, and makes DMC and DMC2 look like they should be used for coasters." And uh, according to this screenshot, Dante get's asswings... Revenge of Vagrant Story?

Kessen III (Yay Koei!) goes on my new gaming wishlist, as does Star Wars Episode 3 and Mega Man X8, which, according to the hardcore Megaman Fans of Game Informer, is actually really good, whereas X7 SUCKED SO MUCH MONKEY WANG!

Also, Tron 2.0? KILL ME.

Anyways, gaming update has finished. Feel free to weep, or rejoice... I dunno, there's a little bit of both in there.

Okay, so now from the wonderful fun life of me:

Kirk is here! And he's still creepy. And I really suck with alarm clocks. I mean, the set the thing and I have even more trouble getting to sleep and I wake up several times and then I end up switching the thing off a half-hour before it's supposed to go off and sleeping for another two hours.

And that kinda sucks. I think I will just tell people (other than Kirk) to wake me up at 14.00 and leave it at that. Maybe it's the ticking. I don't know.

Also, I've been getting the best e-mails even, those being spam e-mails for... something. The actual ad or whatever is an image, but I have those blocked (thank you mail.com) so I just get the words. You know how spam adds all these jumbled random words to they get past the spam filters? These ones use philosophy, and I find myself actually reading through them.

Talents are best nurtured in solitude. Character is best formed in the stormy billows of the world.

Really, only half of this blog's member's are active, and about half of them actually play CR... we need to go stab Sunny. In the face. With a new HDD, and then we need to ADVERTISE! By posting the IP address and MUD name all over completely random and unrelated message boards because that would be such a grand idea!

Look, crappy lineart.

There's something other than witty banter, Ben.

I like how the enteries don't sink down on the page. Cause, y'know, that sucked. I never liked scrolling down to read the lastest post on the page.
This one seems more attractive to me, anyways.
I could get used to posting here again.

Hooray for useless posting.

And yes, I did just make a totally new (although rather basic) layout. With comment links! Go nuts.

Wow, this place is still here?

...it could probably use a new title or something. Also, John should get CR up.

I have redescovered the joy of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

Yeah, I'm bored. I also have a copy of JSRF in the mail. Now all I need is an Xbox.

...Okay, I'm going to mess around with the settings and layout now, don't mind me.
